ROCK CLIMBING INTRO
Our introduction to rock climbing course is aimed at getting you going on real rock. This is an ideal course for those who are looking to move from indoor climbing to outdoor climbing. We look at getting a wider understanding of traditional rock climbs. We hope that at the end of the course, you would be a ‘competent second’ meaning you would be able to join with competent others and be self-sufficient seconding on single and multi-pitch traditional rock climbs.
Key areas we focus on are climbing knots, belaying both a seconding and leading climber, understanding traditional protection, anchors and gear placements. We will also cover understanding guidebooks, grading systems and equipment and crag ethics. We also ensure that personal abseiling, a common method to access or retreat from climbs and climbing areas, is comprehensively covered.
Our venues for this are often in the Aviemore, Fort William & Inverness area where a good selection of single and multi-pitch crags are on offer.
We can provide a harness, helmet and belay plate covered within your course cost. We don’t provide rock shoes however with some prior knowledge of the requirement and size we might be able to arrange something for you. We provide all the hardware and ropes required a long with a first aid kit and other mountain safety equipment.
