UK ALPINE TRAINING
Note: By law, it is a requirement for Alpine guiding in the Alps to hold the IFMGA certification. For Alpine guiding, we highly recommend our friend Rob Jarvis, the owner of Chamonix-based High Mountain Guides (see our links page for more details).
For those heading to the Alps or greater mountain ranges, we offer training days to give you a head start for your trip. These include long mountain scrambles with big boots, excellent preparation for the extensive Alpine routes. We also cover essential ropework, including moving together with coils and crevasse rescue techniques. These skills can be practiced here in the Scottish Highlands on the long ridges of Ben Nevis or on the Isle of Skye.
Additionally, we offer winter skills courses, focusing on proficiency with ice axes and crampons—critical skills for any snow-covered mountain. These same techniques are often a pre-requisite for trekking peaks in the greater ranges.
Included in your course cost, we provide a harness, helmet, and belay plate. We also supply all necessary hardware, ropes, a first aid kit, and other mountain safety equipment. A full kit list is available on our website, and we’re happy to answer any questions about what to bring or wear.
