Its been a busy if a little damp this summer so far with some pretty wet periods coupled with some June snowfall but that hasn’t stopped us getting out delivering various courses during a busy season.
Jo had a great result passing her mountaineering and climbing instructor award during July with Glenmore Lodge. Lots of hard work and milage went into the successful result which is whats required to pass this. Not the easiest summer to get out on the rock and practice with some often very cold mountain days for the season. Although I guess practice for the reality of working in the mountains of Scotland. A busy week taking in routes on the Etive Slabs and mountaineering on the Aonach Eagach so a proper assessment with some tough ground to cover. It will be nice to go climbing without the need for practice and go to the wall on wet days!! Jo was straight out onto Skye with guests Majidd and Patricia with a trip between bad weather days on the Sgurr an Fidean’s Spur putting it all into motion. Unfortunately for this team the weather could only be described as awful so we put the remaining days to a later date in the hopes of getting some better days for a traverse.
Thats unfortunately been a bit of a theme weatherise, thank goodness the Ledge was built in Inverness! We’ve had a good mix of guests from New York to Mumbai and plenty from the UK to. scrambling and guided walking on Skye along with some Ben Nevis ascents have kept us busy in the hills. We have had some good rock climbing days including a young and keen pair who joined us for a couple of days while visiting the Highlands for a quick hit around Inverness and then a full day on the Latheronwheel sea cliffs.
From a getting out climbing for ourselves though its been a bit limited on account of both work and also the rather damp summer. Jo and I have had a good few days though here and there. A nice day on the southern tip of Mull that gave us some nice granite pitches. We also managed a few hours at a nice crag across the border in Northumberland Berry Hill enjoying some rough sandstone. But between MCI prep, work and rain its been a bit hard to get out.
I have already peaked with hopes of a good winter and have prepared the winter pages on the site. With some set courses and open dates I think we have everything ready for the upcoming winter. To have a look at the pages click here.
We still have some summer left and through September and October places available for climbing and scrambling courses please get in touch if you would like to join us in the hills this summer.
